After taking a basic nutrition class in culinary school, I switched directions to focus my study in the field of Clinical Dietetics and Food management–it was the best of both worlds; I would continue to study not only the chemistry of foods but the role it has in affecting our health.
Dietetics is the field of science that examines how the food we eat affects our body and overall health. The body has different nutritional requirements throughout the entire life cycle; beginning at conception to adolescence and throughout maturity. In addition to the requirements throughout the life cycle, there are specific needs for those with various diseases and disorders. Healthy eating and active living can help prevent or control other health issues such as obesity, diabetes, heart disease as well as decrease some risk factors for cancer.
As a Registered Dietitian/ Licensed Nutritionist, I have worked in acute and long-term care settings in addition to providing nutrition counseling for the community in an outpatient setting on a variety of topics. I enjoy helping others understand the benefits of sensible nutrition practices. It’s exciting to be part of this dynamic field, because something as simple as the food that we eat can have a lasting impact on our health.
There is not one plan that is right for everyone, there are many approaches to healthy eating. From learning your story, I will help you find the plan that works for you. Let me help you achieve your goals, whether it is weight management, controlling Diabetes, or reducing your risk factors for heart disease.
