Ingredients

  • 8 ounces chilled club soda or sparkling water
  • Juice of ¼ fresh lime
  • 5 –7 fresh mint leaves
  • Lime wedge and fresh mint sprig for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  • Muddle mint; use a cocktail muddler, a mortar and pestle, or the back of a spoon. You just want to gently release the oils. Don't over-crush the leaves; they can become bitter.
  • Add the mint leaves to a 10 oz cocktail glass.
  • Add the club soda. and fresh-squeezed lime juice, and gently stir.
  • Add ice cubes, and garnish with fresh mint leaves, and extra lime wedges.

Notes

Tip
You can use a traditional cocktail muddler for the mint or use a mortar and pestle.
Extra tip---after you are finished muddling, add the club soda to the mortar to get all of the mint oil into your drink!
Dietitian's Tip
If you're looking for a refreshing alternative to sugary beverages or cocktails, sparkling water with fresh herbs and citrus is a wonderful choice. It's a simple way to stay hydrated while enjoying bright, natural flavors without added sugar.
Gardening Tip
Mint is one of the easiest herbs to grow, but it spreads quickly! Consider planting it in a container or a contained garden space with partial shade to keep it from taking over while enjoying fresh mint all summer long.

One of my favorite things about this drink is the fresh aroma of the mint. Every sip feels crisp, refreshing, and perfect for a warm summer day.
